Term 4 finished on Thursday, bringing an end to my third year at Newington and second as a Housemaster. That evening we had the school's 149th Prizegiving, held in Sydney Town Hall followed by a buffet supper in St Andrew's Cathedral School next door (which is, incidentally, where I had a couple of interviews in 2008 and 2009).
My desk on Wednesday
Friday was a staff professional development morning, Christmas lunch and in the evening the staff Christmas Party, held at Bar Cleveland in Surry Hills. You may remember this from last year's 1970s theme....
This year's theme was The Great Gatsby:
Whilst I was out in Surry Hills, Gill went on a pub crawl in The Rocks with Sarah, and we all met up towards the end of the night. Here's the 'before going out' photo (much more preferable to the 2am ones...):
So I now have a six week holiday! It will be a busy time though as there is lots going on - I am doing two units of study for my diploma over the holidays, so have several assignments to complete, plus some school work to do and Gill and I have several trips booked in January; not to mention the small matter of a wedding to plan.
Next Saturday is the Annual Balmain Christmas Crawl (ABCC) - I figured I could get away with calling it 'annual' because it happened last year. Brookesey, who has been on a one term sabbatical in Melbourne, is coming up for a few days and will join me for that, which I'm very much looking forward to. We'll also be heading to the Big Bash night of cricket at the SCG.
For all those crazy and stressful weeks of work in the middle of the year - I now remember why being a teacher is not so bad after all....

Do you think you should have Googled 'The Great Gatsby' before getting dressed?
ReplyDeleteI did more than that - I watched The Great Gatsby (1974 film with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow) during the week before. In hindsight, I should've gone as George, the mechanic.
