Today I took my first surf lesson. Noosa has built its reputation on being the best place in Australia to learn to surf - with its north facing main beach and reliable weather (not to mention warm water) it's ideal. I was reassured that I wouldn't be with a bunch of kids, , which is what I had feared when a group of adults turned up at the start of the morning..... only for them to go in to a separate group as they were on their second lesson. So I ended up in a small group of total novices which featured two six year old girls (accompanied by their dad), a 10 year old boy and a couple of 17 year old backpackers. Knowing that I today pride and self respect needed to be put to one side, I set to the task of learning the basics, which I reckon I did with a reasonable degree of success. Although this was not without cost, as the video shows....
