Well I'm pleased to report that things have been much calmer this week; I've been enjoying the teaching - having now managed to get my own teaching room has made a big difference. I'm starting to get to know the boys, and vice versa, which is great.
I'm teaching the Design Argument, Fibonnaci (with reference to Islam) to my year 8 classes, the psychology of happiness to year 9, an introduction to deontological and consequentialist ethics at year 10, an introduction to philosophy of religion to Year 11 (a bit of the Matrix and Flatland to help with that), Christianity and Bioethics at Year 12 (HSC) and the American West to my year 8 History class. All of which is certainly keeping me busy!
The weather has improved - it's still fairly humid and warm (26 degrees now, at about 10pm), but the sun is back, and I enjoy an evening walk in my thongs to 'Wok On Inn' (you see what they've done there...) which is a cheap and healthy Asian stir fry place at the end of my road. It's nice to sit outside and watch the sunset.
I'm managing to squeeze a Bertoni's in each morning (as well as my daily porridge) - the school cafeteria has a proper barista machine and they do a mean Long Black there, too.
Well it's off to bed.... alarm at 5.30.....
Why oh why oh why oh why? Eh?
ReplyDeleteThe design argument? Is it 1858?
ReplyDeleteWilliam Paley (he of the watch analogy) died in 1805 actually, but the design argument has gone through its own renaissance in the last few years courtesy of Richard Swinburne. We do, of course, look at alternative explanations for the appearance of design....
