38 degrees

It hit 38 here yesterday - in fact it was well above 30 by 9.30 in the morning. My office and classroom have air-con, so I was spared the worst of it, though I did have to do a lunchtime 'ovals' duty for 20 minutes, in which I somehow managed to get slightly sunburnt whilst mostly standing in the shade. In fact it was so hot yesterday that when I stepped outside the building in to the sunshine and was hit by a wall of heat, my reaction was just to stand still and laugh. It was ridiculous. We had massive storms last night that lasted for hours, and whilst it's not as hot today the humdity is back (in fact it's raining again). I had hoped to make it to the beach or to go kayaking in the harbour but I'm not sure that's a good idea if it storms. On the plus side the catchment areas have had significant rainfall and the reservoirs are up to 50% and rising, which means much of the rain over the next week will go straight it to them as the ground won't be able to absorb much more. I'm told that we'll have a few more weeks of this, but come Easter it will be lovely and fresh again (much like September I hope, which was great).

Right, given it's Saturday morning it's time for strawberry pancakes and coffee......
