Yesterday afternoon I went snorkeling at Clovelly Beach, a narrow inlet between Coogee and Bondi and named after the Devon beach of similar shape. It's barely 30m across in parts but extends around 200m in length on either side, so its shape makes it ideal for fish to shelter, and being rock rather than sand the visibility is usually excellent. I was surprised at the number of fish in this fairly popular spot - I saw a small sting ray, a dragon fish, trigger fish, a school of swordfish and, the highlight, some pretty large blue gropers (they're not the one's that you might find hanging out in King's Cross). Early this morning I went for a walk on Bondi - definitely the best time of the day in the summer months as the sun's not yet burningly hot and the tourists and backpackers are yet to descend - so it was quiet apart from those going for a morning swim or jog around the bay.
