I have now finished my History studies - I submitted the final exam for my last distance learning course this evening. I had to write short essays on the reasons for European integration since 1945, the effect of migration on western Europe, the reasons for militant Islamic oppostion to the US and the effectiveness of CCP rule and economic reforms post-Mao. With the units I did at UNSW this means I've completed 1/4 of a History degree in the last 5 months or so. I'll be putting that on hold for a while as I will be starting a part time teaching qualification in the new year alongside teaching RS and History. Regardless of whether I turn it in to a diploma or degree in the fullness of time, it's been a worthwhile experience - I have learnt a huge a amount and feel better qualified to teach these areas. I now have the results for the first course ("The Making of Australia"), will get the UNSW ones in about a week or so, and the last one in January.
So now I need to turn my attention to applying for the Diploma of Education and thinking about what I will teach in the new year. I'm also anticipating (if not exactly looking forward to) doing some school holiday childcare work which should afford me some 8 hour a day shifts. In the more immediate future, though, there is the small matter of a chicken curry, a bottle of pale ale and series II, episode 3 of "Rome"....
