Not too soon either, as Gill has been sick for the past month (Kindergarten may be cute but they are petri dishes of disease) and I have been ill for the past 10 days, too; but just one day in the tropics and we're already feeling so much better. We have nine days up here in Far North Queensland, where daytime temperatures are about 27 degrees and at night are no lower than 20. We have an apartment near the centre of town and within a minute's walk of Four Mile Beach (photo below, taken this morning). Catching up on sleep, eating seafood and drinking cold beer and wine are all on the agenda - hopefully some fishing, a trip to Cape Tribulation in the UNESCO World Heritage Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef (30 miles off shore), budget permitting.

Four Mile Beach at about 8.30 this morning
Port Douglas is about 1.5 hours drive north of Cairns
Fair enough to get eaten by a croc or stung by a box jellyfish, but when there's so many ways to get killed "slipping on the rocks"would be a pretty humiliating way to go.
Even though we are outside stinger season (Oct-Apr) Gillian won't go in the water, reasoning that if the stingers don't get her, the crocs will.
(Also available for crocs who like to season their food)
