Birthday presents: Jervis Bay & John Butler

For my birthday, Gill organised a weekend in Huskisson, Jervis Bay, on the NSW South Coast.

Although I had hoped to try out my new fishing gear in Currambene Creek, the estuary at Huskisson (apparently it's a good spot for flathead), the weather wasn't great; so instead we hung out in a local cafe and The Waterhouse, our favourite restaurant and wine bar in town.

I've just returned from the annual Year 12 Retreat at Kurriajong in on the edge of the Blue Mountains; which is a great time for the boys to chill out for a few days after their exams at the end of a hectic term - it's not quite so relaxing for me, though.

So I am very happy that the Easter holidays are finally here - and a much needed two week holiday. Along with the holidays, autumn has also arrived suddenly - windy and wet here for the next few days. At least I can get all my marking done to free up some fishing time for when the sunshine returns.

To kick off the holidays on Friday night, Gill and I saw the John Butler Trio at the Hordern Pavilion (which was one of my presents to Gill for her 30th). Here's a video of them performing "Only One" from the night - well worth checking out if you're not familiar with John Butler.
