The Colo River, north-west of Sydney, is a great place to fish for Australian Bass - so this week Wayne, Denise, Patrick and I went on a recce to see what it was like and to check out the campsite at the Upper Colo Reserve.
The water looks brown, but it is actually crystal clear - the colour comes from the sandy bottom. Despite all the rain we've had lately, the upper stretches were very shallow and the water warm and clean; a great place for kids (being the Easter holiday the campsite and nearby 'beach' resembled a creche). It's certainly a beautiful spot.

Although we saw a snake and some wallabies, we didn't actually see any fish. However, we did work out a plan for a fishing trip in the canoe on Easter Sunday. Gill will drop me and Wayne at the bridge in Upper Colo (the one in the photos) and we will drift downstream with a couple of fishing rods and an esky full of beer. Gill will then pick us up a couple of hours later, with an esky full of fish. Apparently.
