British & Irish Lions 41 Australia 16

What an extraordinary day.

Definitely one of those "I was there" moments. The first Lions series win in 16 years - and achieved in some style, too. Just awesome.

Shortly before kick off

Waiting for the ferry at Abbotsford Wharf on the way to the stadium

We took a picnic with us and found a secluded spot near the stadium, where we could enjoy a sneaky bottle of wine about four hours before kick off... only to have it rudely interrupted by a group of blokes with a ball.

Who do these guys think they are? The Lions?

Err yes, actually

The forwards walk through their lineout variations

One of the coaches saw that I was wearing red and Gill had a yellow scarf around her shoulders and said "Remember, it's only a game you two" - to which I replied "I'll remind her of that when I console her afterwards". It wasn't the only comment we had from people who spotted we were supporting different sides, although we saw several other couples wearing a mixture of red and gold.

The backs playing a game of catch

After our picnic and bizarre encounter with the Lions squad, we had a couple of beers in one of the tents outside the ground (with a 75m bar) and soaked up some of the atmosphere, before heading in to the stadium, along with 83 700 other very excited people.

About an hour before kick off - our 'Silver' seats were at the southern end, towards which the Lions were attacking in the first half.

Moments before kick off

Yes, that's me jumping up and down like an idiot after the final whistle to the Fratellis (followed by 'A Hard Days Night' and then 'Delilah').
