Cockatoo Island

On Sunday Meg and Pete came to Abbotsford for lunch and to collect Patrick, after which Gillian and I spontaneously decided to get on a ferry.... we had intended to go to The Rocks, but decided to get off at Cockatoo Island instead. Cockatoo Island is a UNESCO World Heritage site in Sydney Harbour, listed for its convict and naval history; it was a penal settlement in the 1840s and later became a naval dockyard that built the countries first warship; after the fall of Singapore in WWII it was the main military shipbuilding dockyard for the south-west Pacific. TOday, there are walking trails around the old docks and warehouses, as well as rather appealing cocktail bar.

We arrived at 3pm. Joy!

I've no idea what this piece of metal was for

After a couple of jugs of cocktails on Cockatoo Island, it was back on the ferry.... to Balmain

.... and to finish the weekend, a curry.
