Spring in Sydney

Spring in Sydney! My favourite time of year.... warm and sunny days, long evenings, jasmine and jacarandas, plus it's Term 4 at school. Saturday involved a bike ride around the bay - which was fun for about 30 minutes, after which Gill and I realised that she was going for a 'bike ride', whilst I was going for a 'cycle'. Big difference. A bike ride means a leisurely ride on cycle paths and back streets at a bit more than walking pace. A cycle involves averaging around 25 kph and traveling on the odd main road. Unfortunately, without an intimate knowledge of the back streets of Sydney, it's impossible to go on a bike ride that avoids the main roads, without the assistance of a mounted GPS on your bike. So we made it about 7km from home in about 1.5 hours. At which point, everybody had clearly had enough and had to go home.

Next time we do the 'bike ride' thing, we'll put the bikes in the car and head to a national park....

Here's the view from our balcony at about 7.30pm on Friday evening:

and the view from the sofa....

Yes, it's rubbish.

ADDENDUM

Gill and I had an engagement celebration on Saturday night with Jeremy, Monika and Dylan, at an awesome new Italian restaurant called 'Bistecca', just down the road from where we live. We had steaks (I had a 200g eye fillet), but Dylan took this photo of the next table - this is a 1kg steak! Not only did this guy finish it, he backed it up with desert....
