Cat Gnocchi Pie

It's been over two weeks since my last blog post; and whilst I would like to say I've been having so much fun I've just not had time to write about it, the sad truth is the opposite. It's end of semester exam marking and report writing. Suffice to say I'm over it.
So the most interesting things that have happened have involved discovering a cat in the back shed this afternoon and food. I had gone out the back this evening to get some big bags for our weekend away, when I saw a grey, fury bottom dash under the shelves. Not sure if it was a possum or a cat, after some digging around it turned out to be a runaway pooch house cat - about whom a flyer had landed in our letterbox just today.

So we called the owners (a young Irish couple) who exictedly came around and, eventually, 'Portia' was cat-handled in to a box, ("cat-knapped?") and whiskered away (ok, I'll stop now).

Aside from the cat, the other most exciting event has been Gill's cooking. No doubt inspired by Masterchef Australia to which we are both addicted, we've had gnocchi, homemade pesto, spinach and roasted tomatos...

... And an old Aussie favourite: mushroom and leek pie (again, homemade), with steamed broccoli, spinach and sprouts (notice the heart on the top!).

The food has been the highlight of my days these last couple of weeks.

There is a respite coming, thanks be to Queen Elizabeth, for whom we have a public holiday on Monday. So on Friday evening we're off to Mudgee for three nights (which was my birthday present from Gill, so I had to take her really).

After some pretty nasty weather lately, which spoiled our view of the transit of Venus this week, it looks to be set fair this weekend - frosty starts on the other side of the mountains, but crisp sunny and afternoon when it warms up to around 16 degrees.

Did I mention they have wineries there, too...?

The next blog post featuring our mini-break will be soon; promise.

  1. A 'pooch' is a dog not a cat, you goose.
