The Blake Prize was presented this evening at the National Art School in Darlinghurst, near the city. It was a pretty packed affair - as to be expected, lots of very arty types. There were some interesting, and, as befits the Blake Prize, provocative and confronting images. It's always been a controversial prize (now in its 59th year) and this year is no exception, dealing as ever in issues of social justice and subverting cultural and religious norms. Unfortunately, due to the large numbers of people it was difficult to appreciate the works fully - especially those which had a theme of stillness and silence. I went with Jeremy and Dylan (i.e. it was a departmental outing!) which was followed by a Mexican meal in Glebe.
I have some excellent job news; I don't think I can blog about what it is yet (I hope to be able to in about a week or so), but am happy to give more details to anyone who is interested enough to drop me an email.
