We both lost! The results went as predicted, but honour and pride remained intact.
It was a beautiful morning - a bit chilly at 7.30am (hence the coats!) when we set out from the house in our respective blue and black & white, though it soon warmed up to be a lovely winter's day.
I drove us both. We were stopped on the way by an RBT unit (Random Breath Test), which was a cause of minor excitement (sorry, no photo I'm afraid...). After our matches we drove to the main oval where the U16A rugby team was playing - King's School is set on 360 acres - hence the need to drive! Here's Kit posing at the oval - with the original school chapel, built in 1832, visible between the posts and the pavilion and scoreboard to the right.
Kit took me on a tour of the grounds (or part of them) after the game; there is a Conditioning Centre (i.e. a glorfied gym) used by All Blacks when they're in town to play the Wallabies, and a new state-of-the-art professional theatre, which was opened by Kate Blanchett last week. My school has recently started a huge and impressive facilities upgrade, so we will be similar in a year or so, I hope!
So it's back east for more sport today - Bledisloe 2 is tonight (ABs v Wallabies in Christchurch), with the Tigers taking on South Sydney Rabbitohs (Russell Crowe's team) later as well - Jen supports the Bunnies so there will be more inter-house rivalry this evening (except Kit and I will of course be cheering on the Tigers). All of which will be rounded off with the morning session of England v Pakistan at cricket tonight... yes, it's pretty relentless.
First up though, I think it's lunch in the sunshine.
And finally, I treated myself to a bottle of Shepherd Neame's Spitfire last night - I couldn't quite get a decent head on it, but great to taste some real beer again....
