This week I learnt the difference between 'rain' and 'Rain'. 'rain' is that annoying precipitation that causes you to screw up your nose and say 'euw, is it raining?' or 'urgh, I think it's started to rain'. The kind that sets in on a typically English 'rainy day'. It spits. It drizzles. It's just a bit rubbish. It's 'rain'. Then there is 'Rain'. It most certainly comes with Capital Letters. There is no mistaking It. Being in Rain without an umbrella is the same as being in a swimming pool. On entry you are immediately and totally immersed in water. This week we most certainly had Rain. It doesn't spit. It doesn't even pour. It flows from the sky. It is not a collective noun for droplets of water. It's a vertical river.
It - 'Rain' - has meant that rugby was called off this weekend, affording me some precious time to start getting the new house painted, and write some reports.
