Today it was 38 degrees in Sydney. Yes, thirty eight. Even the Aussies were complaining. It was also Melbourne Cup day, which is one of the biggest events in the year (horse racing) when the country pretty much comes to a halt and everyone goes to the pub. The centre of Sydney was like the aftermath of a napalm strike during a large scale wedding - groups of girls in heels and ridiculous hats staggering around the city in a daze. I've no idea where the men were - presumably at the bar or watching the racing.

I, on the other hand, took Shelley and Paul in to Circular Quay by ferry and then to the Opera House and Botanical Gardens, then headed back to go to work. Despite coating myself in factor 30 all day I've still caught the sun. We took a dozen or so kids to a cycling park for lessons - I had the special needs cyclists, i.e. a group of 8-9 year old girls who don't know their hands from their feet. It was, actually, quite good, despite the heat, as I was mostly under cover.

I'm not sure I can stick with the job though - I feel somewhat out of place playing lego and pretending to be impressed by crayoning. Instead of 'wow! That looks great!' I want to say 'this is nonsense, come back in a few years when you have something sensible to say'.
