It's odd how English people behave differently here than back home. In London I wouldn't think of arranging to meet a friend of a friend of a friend - someone I've never even met before - for a drink on a Saturday night. But this evening I met Nick, who is a friend of James, who is a friend of Robert, for a drink at the Riverview Hotel (pubs are called 'hotels' here... there's a reason why, but that's another story), which is at the end of my road. He came out here quite randomly when he was offered a placement with his work 3 years ago, and now lives in Balmain with his Aussie girlfriend. James put us in touch before he headed back to the UK last month. There's something about being on the other side of the world that creates a weird connection with other English people. Perhaps it's also why Aussies hang out with other Aussies in Earls Court. It was good to get out on a Saturday night though, as I was otherwise going to carry on working on my latest assignment, which I've been looking at today; it's all about the ANZAC legend, but I'll blog about that tomorrow....
