job news

A couple of weeks ago I applied for a Religious Studies teaching job at one of the very few independent schools that teaches RS in the same way as I have experienced in the UK; I interviewed there about ten days ago, went back to teach a lesson last week and the following morning was offered the job - which I have accepted! I'm excited and very pleased - it's a good school and they are keen to push RS and develop the subject; signifcantly, I'll also be given some History teaching too. Given all the ups and downs last year I am naturally being a bit cautious about it all and can't quite believe it is true, but I have signed the contract and now it's a matter of getting through all the admin.

I will of course let you know when it's "official" and the school goes public (though it could take a couple of months for it all to go through immigration) and I don't want to say too much on here, but drop me an email if you'd like to know more. It's great that I can make now make plans, especially as this has happened way before the main recruitment season starts (in about 6 weeks). So I'm quite chuffed that after around 6 weeks of being here I've got a job for the new year, which has exceeded my most optimistic expectations.

In the next couple of days I'll blog about my first Aussie Rules experience (including corporate hospitality) and also a little more about some of the friends I've made (that'll be a short blog I think....). For now, thank you to all of you who encouraged me to have to the confidence to come out here and give it a go. After writing untold numbers of letters and emails to schools in 1997, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008 and again this year I've finally been formally offered a job - so it's fair to say I'm "stoked."
