The first quarter of the year has flown by, and I've realised it's been a month since my last post on the blog. March has been fairly busy and intense. It's week 9 of term, but with a two week lead in to the school year, it feels more like week 11 and I'm ready for a break.
Rugby training kicks off next week at school, although the season won't officially start until after Easter. This year I'm taking the U14Bs; with specialist sports coaches on all the A teams this year, including a former Waratah's coach taking the U15A side, I am more than happy to forgo the pressure! Our awesome Director of Rugby has recently been poached by the NSW Waratahs, so we've just appointed a replacement from Blackrock College in Ireland (a school I played against on tour there back in 1992!) so the quality of coaching at the top end remains very high.
One of the highlights of the past month was Patrick's 4th Birthday 'Superhero' Party. Superman showed up to give the kids some superhero training, gamely assisted by Spiderman, who was himself 'in training' for superhero status. Some of the kids were understandably intimidated by Spiderman's mask, although I was more intimidated by the tightness of the lycra that left little to the imagination. It was a great afternoon - lots of sugar was consumed in various forms and there were no tears; the children had a great time, too.
In other news we've recently booked a holiday apartment in Port Douglas in Far North Queensland, for a week in the July holiday. It's north of Cairns and is on the edge of the World Heritage Listed Daintree Rainforest and the Barrier Reef, so it's a spectacularly beautiful place. It will give us something to look forward after what will be a very busy couple of months for both of us, but especially for Gill who is due to finish her Masters of Teaching in June.
Not sure what Superman is pointing at
Some young superheros attack three nasty villains (me, Matt and Pete). Not sure how Simon [left] got out of that one
The metre long flatheads have eluded me and Wayne so far down at Figtree Bridge; this little bream being the extent of my fishing exploits. It's only a matter of time before one of us catches a shark.
Woolwich Dock, not far from where we live
'The Cottage' wine bar on Darling St, Balmain; one of my favourite places to relax on a Saturday afternoon!
