Digging a Hole

So it has come to this - a blog post about digging a hole.

Last weekend Gill and I went to Castle Burke for the day. Before their driveway is laid this week, a trench needed to be dug across it (for future cabling); however, Pete was sick, Wayne has a broken foot, Patrick is only 3 and the twins can't stand up unassisted - so it fell to me to demonstrate my manly skills and practical expertise.

With a lack of appropriate work wear, I had to don my rugby kit

Patrick is put on shovelling duty (until I accidentally stood on his finger)

This week has involved doing various domestic jobs at home that have been put off during term time, plus school work and preparation for the upcoming conference. Gill has Wednesday's off work to study, so yesterday we went out for lunch to a Glebe cafe. A late lunch led to a visit to an excellent new wine bar in Balmain called The Cottage. There have been a few of these small, Melbourne-style bars appearing around the inner-west recently, and this one is a welcome addition; perfect for a bottle of wine and a plate of cheese on a chilly weekday afternoon.
