Orange (part 1)

We've just had a long weekend for the Queen's birthday, which Gill and I spent in Orange (no Andrew, not in an orange, or wearing orange clothes.... Orange is a country town in NSW). We stayed in a self contained unit, which was once the maid's quarters of an old federation period country house and is about 30km north of Orange, near a small town called Molong (Aboriginal for "place of many rocks"). We picked a great weekend to go - it was lovely, (if cold) the top temperature on Friday was about 8 degrees. It rained the whole weekend along the east coast on the other side of the mountains.
Orange is a 4-5 hour drive from Sydney, so having left on Friday afternoon we arrived late, after stopping for dinner in chilly Katoomba in the Blue Mountains. Saturday involved a trip to the Farmers Market and then to a couple of wineries; in the evening we indulged in some fine dining at one of the renowned restaurants in town. Sunday featured more wine tasting and exploring, before driving back to Sydney via lunch in a cosy, fire warmed cafe in Katoomba and dinner with Gill's family at her parents' place, which was on the way home.
