Tasmania Tour

Below is an interactive map of our travels in Tassie - you can scroll, zoom and click on the icons for more info. Unfortunately I've not been able to upload any photos yet.

Days 1-3: Andrew and I explored Wineglass Bay, some 'English' villages, Port Arthur and went on a high speed boat tour of Tasman Island and the seal colonies.
Days 4-6: Gill met us in Hobart; Salamanca markets, a tall ship cruise and a pub crawl.
Days 6-10: Gill fly back to Sydney and Paul and Vix arrived; we went to the Bay of Fires, Cradle Mountain and Launceston.

Among my personal highlights was our day at Port Arthur; the beauty of the modern site belies a dark and horrific past, in which prisoners suffered both mental and physical torture; set in spectacular scenery of densely forested hills and mountains and surrounded by the Southern Ocean at what must have felt like the end of the earth. The boat tour around the peninsula was great - the coastline is incredibly dramatic and beautiful. The Bay of Fires was stunning even without the sunshine, and the swim was 'refreshing'. Whilst Cradle Mountain was shrouded in clouds and rain, we had a good walk around Dove Lake and saw a wallaby.

The island is rich in history and not short on beautiful vistas of both mountains and coastline, not to mention quaint mock-English villages. Although the poor weather in the second half of the week meant we didn't see it at its best, we still had a really good trip.
