It wasn't just Captain Cook's compass needle that has been attracted to Magnetic Island.... the rainforest walks, rolling hills and secluded bays draw plenty of visitors. It's popular with families, retired couples, young couples and teenage backpackers. As for thirtysomething single men, well, it has a golf course. Which is great for those who like golf. Despite feeling rubbish due to my cold I did a reasonably arduous walk today and went to the weekly cane toad races this evening.
Here's the final race of the night, run by "Vernon" who auctions off each toad to the highest bidder. The winning toad is the one that crosses the line first. The best bit is watching big Vern run around after the race trying to retrieve all the toads who leap towards the four corners of the earth. In the second race, one managed to get as far as the carpark before being apprehended.
Anyway, here's "Barak Obama" leaping to victory, beating "Tony Abbott" (who is also the federal opposition leader here) in a close finish....
Wow - looks beautiful! Hope you have a great time. Seems like the perfect place to chill out after the stresses of term. Will definitely work out the technology for when you get back, then it's just a matter of figuring out timings - surely it can't be beyond us? Will be nice to catch up properly. Vix x
