The prize is apparently $250.... a small rebate on the ridiculous cost of doing it in the first place, but better than the proverbial (or indeed literal) poke in the eye with a sharp (or indeed blunt) stick.
I'm now five weeks in to my DipEd course and had to sit a 1.5 hour online exam on Saturday on the first four weeks' worth of material. I started looking at the stuff on Saturday morning, did the online test in the afternoon and (somehow) managed to get 85%. Bloom's Taxonomy, Multiple Intelligence Theory, Corporate Learning, Zone of Proximal Development and Boad of Studies Standards are but a few of the (apparently important) things one needs to know. I rewarded myself with a trip to the pub to watch the rugby, read my book, have a burger and drink some pale ale. Which you can do on a Saturday night here and still get a seat.
I spent Sunday marking so it was a pretty unexciting weekend - a bit of a shame given the glorious weather. That said, I took the opportunity to explore East Balmain (if you have to spend the day marking, why not do it with an awesome view?) and succeeded in finding some bush regeneration land and a lovely park out near East Balmain wharf, with tree covered vistas east towards the city, The Rocks and Darling Harbour. Amazingly, too, it was really quiet - hardly anyone there all morning, so I had the place to myself, apart from the odd pleasure boat or ferry going by.
Last week of teaching this week - I'm fighting off a cold, have loads to do and will welcome the holiday. After, that is, my three days camping in the Southern Highlands with Year 9 next week. I'll be dead on my feet by then.... (but hopefully not dead off them).
