I think I'm beginning to get the hang of dealing with 6 year olds. It seems important to be (i) able to overcome any sense of embarrassment at sounding ridiculous and (ii)  prepared to find almost anything the most fascinating thing you have ever seen / heard. Today I made guacamole for the 'Mexican' afternoon tea, and then joined in the 'active' games in the recreation centre. I ran home from work this evening - the weather is lovely this week, mid-high 20s and sunny, so it's far preferable to waiting for a bus during rush hour, and it's also a lovely route along Darling Harbour and over the ANZAC Bridge.

We have a squatter under the stairs whom I discovered making a foray in to the kitchen this morning - a lizard about 7 inches long, who bolted for his room when I suggested he might like to take a stroll in the garden. I'm not too fussed about him hanging around rent-free, as he'll help see off some of the insects. I've set up some moth traps as well this evening as we seem to have at least half a dozen in the house every day - they're only small but the traps should keep the numbers down. No sign of any more spiders lately, thankfully - though our high powered vacuum cleaner should take care of them. Only one cockroach in four months which is good - so no need napalm the house as yet....
