The Festival of Dangerous Ideas (1) & an uninvited guest

This weekend I'm going to the "Festival of Dangerous Ideas" at the Opera House - it's a series of talks by eminent writers, scientists, philosophers and other such luminaries. This afternoon I;m going to a talk on Islamic values in Australian society, and tonight to one entitled "Religion Poisons Everything" by Christopher Hitchins. Tomorrow is Germaine Greer on freedom, Baroness Susan Greenfield on the effect of online networking on children's brains, and a debate entitled "Democracy is not for everyone". I'm supposed to be going to hear the Catholic Archbishop of Sydney speak in the evening, but I've realised it clashes with the NRL Grand Final - rugby vs theology; not a decision I've had to make before, but I've a feeling the rugby might be the winner.....

A little excitement this morning - I came downstairs to find that
Kit was involved in a stand-off with an uninvited guest who was hiding in a small hole under the tiles in the fireplace. We managed to coax it out - fortunately it was
just a lizard.

The clocks go forward tonight,
which means we will be BST+10 (GMT+11); certainly when the clocks go back in the UK in a few weeks it will make it much easier to speak to people when it's evening back home.
