This is my first post, and being new to blogging I've no idea how this is going to work. Whilst it's rather presumptuous of me to assume that anyone is really going to care - and I can't help but feel that it's also a bit too 'look at me' - my friends said that they'd prefer a blog to me sending group emails which they would routinely delete without reading. They've assured me that a blog is much easier for them to routinely ignore than an email is - with only a fraction of the associated guilt. So I'm doing them a favour.
Well - I leave on my one-way ticket to Sydney on 15th July, and will start my uni course shortly after. It's been 12 years since I first tried to embark on this adventure, so I'm somewhat amazed that it's actually going to happen. I've also forgotten why on earth I thought this was a good idea in the first place, but I guess I must have had my reasons and now is not the time to start naval gazing. It's a bit of a shot in the dark in that I have neither the full working visa nor an Australian-recognised qualification that would enable me to teach (despite my ten years in the profession in the UK and having Qualified Teacher Status), so I've no idea if this is going to come off, but I'd hate it to be easy....
I'm now almost packed, and despite the actually rather exciting episode in my flat this evening which involved the washing machine blowing up - it did, quite literally, blow up (there was a loud bang with smoke and everything) - I'm still remarkably calm. That may all change this week, though, as my last day at Trinity draws closer...
